“…and you shall afflict yourselves” (27): The interpretation of the Holy Bible (Roman Catholic Version—Bibiliya Ntagatifu) calls that day the day of mercy, and it was indeed the day they were sanctified before the Lord their God, that is, their sins were forgiven and taken away (28). They continued to have fellowship with God because sin is what separated man from God. After a person committed a sin, he ran away from God, went to hide from God and found his own way of life. That day reminds us of the great work Jesus did to unite us with God. This seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Booths to the LORD (34): That special festival was also celebrated in families, the Israelites made a covenant with the Lord their God, that they would obey him in what he commanded them, and rely on him, so that he would protect them throughout their lives.
