Thursday 25 July, Leviticus 24. 1-23 Qn.3
He shall arrange the lamps on the lampstand of pure gold before the LORD regularly.(4): Those lamps were not to be switched off. They say that they were burning at night full of oil, and when it was going to run out of it, it was again replenished with oil in the morning. It was the part of all the Israelites to bring oil that they prepared well, and the priests also did their job of lighting the lamps, and keeping the fire alive. Keeping the lights on all night shows how Jesus is the light of the world, illuminating all people so that they may be refreshed and saved. Lighting during the day also shows that this light of the sun and lamps we are used to is not enough to know God, but we need another light from God alone, because it is the one that makes us see what we are not used to, and it gives us new life. That light is Jesus who became a sacrifice, and is a priest in the manner of Melchizedek (Heb. 7.2, 16-19, 22-28). Remember: “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will never walk in darkness” (John 8:12). Song 42 (Praises).
