Thursday 11 July 1 Timothy 3: 1-16 Qn. 3, 4
If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. (1): Bishops were the elders of the Church who had authority over it (Acts 20.17). At that time, there were leaders in the government, and leaders in the church. Some governed according to the laws of the land, others according to the Scriptures. It is possible that at that time many people wanted to be church elders, or deacons. Therefore, Paul decided to instruct them, so that they would understand how they too ought to behave. The Spirit of God should lead all leaders; be the leaders in Church, in the country, at school, at work and elsewhere. When we do not cooperate with our leaders, we do not pray for them or give them advice, and seemingly we become like a burden to them. “If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God (15): God’s church should be marked by specific activities that are planned and done wisely, so that those who attend feel satisfied and happy in that place. Pray: Lord Jesus, give me the strength to do your work with the zeal to reinforce the good works done in the Church. Song: 273 (Praises).
