Sunday 21 July, Leviticus 22. 1-16 Qn. 4

Speak to Aaron and his sons so that they abstain from the holy things of the people of Israel, which they adedicate to me (2). Why did God give the Priests such instructions? It is possible that the Israelites had been following the practices of the idolatrous priests in Egypt. And you would find that they were attracted to it. So God wants his Priests who serve him to understand what he is asking them to do, to help people get to know God better, and to obey him. The priests’ obedience to God made the Israelites love them, so they also acted with complete security. And if anyone eats of a holy thing unintentionally, he shall add the fifth of its value to it..(14): There were people who were allowed to eat the sacrifice and those who were not. Anyone who ate the sacrifice without permission and without knowing he/she had to pay what was expected to be paid. Zirikana: Servants of God should make good use of what the parishioners have given, especially the money, and do not think that they will use it as they wish (15). Pray: May the Holy Spirit help us to always know what we are allowed or not allowed to do, so that we do not sin against God. Song 388 (Praises).
