…,” They are rooted before us, as at the first.”….(32): In this war, a lot of military men died on both sides because it involves a lot of maneuvers (34-42). That seems normal as wars between relatives take many people’s lives. However, the Israelites finally won because the LORD was on their side (28). This war between relatives seemingly provoked more others ahead (2 Chr. 25.20-22). Consulting God before getting involved in any battle was a good culture in Judaism, and God could go with them to the battle (1 Chr. 14.10; Josh. 8.1). We also as Christians of the New Testament, the Lord Jesus tells us that he knows us, and that we are in his hands, and that no one can snatch us from his hands (Jn. 10.27). Surrounding the Benjaminites, they pursued them and trod them doen from Nohah as far as opposite Gibeah on the east (43): Could be that the Benjaminites took for granted previous victories and relaxed a bit, which led to their defeat at that battle (39). Let’s always avoid unnecessary relaxation because Satan changes his tactics. Consider: In all our battles, God is always near us, he never turns his back on our prayers.
