Wednesday 21 February John 11.17-27 Qn.1,2

If you had been here, my brother would not have died. (21): Martha’s words sound as an expression of hopelessness, that it was over and his brother had already gone. No blame on her since it was the fourth day, there seemed to be nothing else to think about. It’s like she was telling Jesus “You have come too late to do anything, your time has gone and no return.” When Jesus told her that his brother will resurrect, Martha related it to the final day of the resurrection of the bodies (23-24). I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me,  though he die,  yet shall he live (25): Martha and all who followed the conversation of Jesus and Martha needed to understand well whom they had in their midst, that he had power over death, and that he could resurrect Lazarus. Consider: Our God is so able that no problem can defeat him, our duty is to accept and trust him and even stay closer to him. (Jeremiah 29.1;31.3).
