Wednesday 20th August Job 2.1-13

August 20

Qn. 3

….Although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason” (3):  Satan hardly accepts defeat. He keeps on struggling to find other means. Job’s faith is a good picture of Jesus, which all Christians ought to follow. As the Apostles forsook Jesus who had chosen them, so was Job forsaken by his own wife. A lot of people nowadays are facing this kind of temptation (Mat. 10.36). A person may sell all his property in order to go for medical treatment (4): Satan inflicts incurable diseases to make believers poor, and creates despair among others (9), yet a sick believer with strong faith remains hopeful. Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place,…(11): They saw him and spend with him seven days. We are not told whether they spent the seven days praying, instead they could probably have been there simply idle and perplexed. Could be they were perplexed because of Job’s unusual suffering. There are times we fail to have words to comfort a hurting person and we leave it all to God. Reflection: Have you ever visited such a person and you remain speechless, or have you ever been visited by some people and you all ran short of words, and only looked at each other for a while before talking? Would you share that with the people around you.
