Wednesday 16th July Acts 19.1-10

July 16

Qn. 1, 6

And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?...(2): The answer of these Christians Paul found in Ephesus shows exactly who could have taught them! We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit, and we were baptized into John’s baptism. A disciple who reached Ephesus with the same problem was Apollos (Acts 18.24-25). As Jesus put it there is no disciple who is greater than his teacher (Luke 6.40). Apollos delivered the knowledge he had to his disciples and they felt that was all they needed to know. Eloquence and well organized speech is not enough for one to be a good teacher. There are people who believe in false teachings as a result of following teachers who have strayed away. The prophet Hosea once prophesied saying that people were destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4.6). Lack of knowledge is one of the things that will make people perish. Consider: The Holy Spirit does not operate where people have strayed away, what miracles they might be performing. In essence, the Holy Spirit does what comes from Jesus and Jesus being the Word of God, nothing contradicting would ever come from God (Jn. 16.13-15).
