Tuesday 5th August Matthew 19.23-30
Qn. 1
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (26): There are two main points in Jesus’ statement: 1) It’s impossible with man: Usually, leave alone going to heaven, man cannot do anything by himself without Jesus’ help (Jn. 15.5). There are people who behave as if they achieved everything because of their hardworking or wisdom, and they ignore God’s role (Deut. 8.12-14). 2) With God all things are possible: The prophet Jeremiah affirms that nothing is impossible with God (Jer. 32.27). Jesus Christ intervenes on our behalf in all things, and even when we think it would not be possible, he wins for us, heals our diseases, forgives our sins, and above all he has prepared a place for us to live there forever (Jn. 14.13). “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God” (24): Jesus gave an impossible example, as in fact, someone who believes in self-righteousness cannot get saved. It’s not possible for a rich who sins to enter the kingdom of heaven, nor can a poor who sins as well. Consider: But all who did receive him (both rich and poor0, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, (Jn. 1.12).
