Tuesday 22nd July Judges 15.1-20
Qn. 6
And her father said, “I really thought that you utterly hated her, …(2): Samson did not marry the other lady he fell in love with as his father-in-law gave her in marriage to another man. Samson made a decision to put some grain and olive orchards on fire, using foxes turned tail to tail and a torch between each pair of tails, and setting fire on the torches, then letting the foxes go into the fields (4-6). Samson was not the only one who was cheated in that manner; the same happened to Jacob as well (Gen. 29.25-27). While Samson opted for fighting, Jacob decided to patiently wait for another opportunity. When people offend you, how do you respond? ….And the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire (6): When the Philistines found out that Samson’s father-in-law was the root cause of their calamity, they immediately burned him as well as his daughter. In the ancient times, when someone caused any kind of calamity, she or he could be killed (Jonah 1.12). When Samson knew that the Philistines had killed his father-in-law and his wife, he also killed many of them. The Philistines tried to revenge but without success, instead Samson managed to kill 1,000 more. Consider: Sin that is not repented has terrible consequences all over the world.
