Tuesday 1st July Hosea 5.1-15
Qn. 2
I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore; Israel is defiled (3): People’s deeds are exposed like as if naked in the sight of God. There nowhere man can hide from God, even Jonah who tried it to avoid going to where he had been sent did not succeed (Jonah 1.1-4). The psalmist said it rightly that God exists everywhere (Ps. 139.7-12). Ephraim is oppressed (11): The person still under oppression cannot act according to God’s will, and that’s why Jesus came to release us and give us freedom. We are usually oppressed by our sinful nature, yet that does have any hold on us when we choose to be led by the Holy Spirit. For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah…(14): After the Israelites had rejected God’s warnings, he decided to rise against them and fight them through foreign kings, expecting them to seek him as immediately as they started experiencing suffering. Consider: A Christian always seeks God whether in peace or facing hard times.
