…But the Benjaminites would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the people of Israel (13): The Israelites had laws by which criminals could be treated, especially for someone who could have killed another deliberately (Lev. 24.17). The Benjaminites did not comply with those laws, the root cause of their fighting with the Israelites (20). Brethren, we should know that sin is very bad, and has terrible consequences, and so we should avoid it (Rom. 6.23). After the worthless men from the Benjaminites had raped the wife of the Levite, the Israelites asked them to give up the worthless men and they refused, and this provoked a fight between them. Avoidance of sin is a very important thing in our lives. And the people of Israel inquired of the LORD…(27): Even if the Benjaminites were also strong, yet the Israelites were prompted into prayer and fasting three times, and God directed them as to how they could engage themselves into the fight. Never get involved in any project without praying about it. Prayer: Loving God, we ask you to always show us the right way to take.
