Thursday 10th July Acts 16.16-24

As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling (16): It’s so amazing to find a demon possessed person saying such nice words, yet on the other hand it no surprise as it is also written that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and may even perform miracles (2 Cor. 11.14-15). But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the market before the rulers (19): Even as this slave girl was demon possessed, she also could carry out divination which gave much gain to her owners. These latter were not happy that she had got well; instead those who prayed for her healing were the ones who got into trouble (16, 19-20). On this earth even today, there are ruthless people who earn their living through human trafficking, those who abuse children by giving them out to people that pay them to sleep with those innocent girls; those who engaged young people into forced labor and in addition to causing then to drop out of school, and so on. Prayer Request: Pray for the weak people who are under irresponsible employers that don’t care about them.
