Sunday 3rd August Matthew 19.1-12
Qn. 4
…, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives,…(8): The carnal nature of the Jews and their hardness of heart made the Pharisees and other Israelites take marriage as something done just for personal pleasure. Yet Jesus recounted to them why God established marriage between a man and a woman, and he repeated to them the corresponding Scriptures (Gen. 1.27; 2.24). The marriage of a man and a woman was authored by God, and it was planned beforehand that when such happens, the two become one flesh. God’s thought was that the marriage reflects his love and glory, as husband and wife live together in unity. However, the carnal nature and people’s selfish desires lead them to think that they can themselves determine what marriage has to be carried out, and that it’s not God to determine that. Probably even today, there are things people argue with God about, because of their lustful tendencies to pursue their personal pleasures. Consider: The knowledge of God’s will is a vital step in one’s life, whereas following God’s will becomes a remarkable step in a Christian’s life.
