Sunday 30 June Leviticus 15.1-15 Qn.7
When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean (2): this discharge was due to different diseases that could release unclean stuff out of the body, thus rendering the related object unclean (3). Though the man with discharges could not be taken out of the city as the leprous, whatever he touched could be declared unclean, wherever he sat or slept (4), his spits (8) and even touching him with a hand (10); all of those cases could be an indication of uncleanness. All the precautions set in place were a measure of prevention and protection of God’s people. “And when the one with a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing,” (13): the cleansing of the leprous could be approved by the priest, but the cleansing from discharges were to be diagnosed and confirmed by the patient prior to his own cleansing. These also were to be followed by sin offering, and then burnt offering, to confirm that the cleansed person had come to join the people of God (15). Consider: God cares about his people and it’s good not to spread the diseases in case you have contracted a transmissible disease.
