And the five men who had gone to scout out the land went and entered and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image,…(17): Ephod was a priestly wear in Israel (Ex. 28.4), probably it wasn’t normal to find ephod in a shrine for idols, and the reason for which the spies could not leave it there when they saw it. Do you ever consider taking the good things you find in a different church, so that you may use them for God’s kingdom if appropriate? What is good for you? (18): Maybe this priest Jonathan had no calling, and was only doing it as a Levite. For him priesthood is a business like any other (17.10). What this priest Jonathan fell short of could be the same as what several other people struggle with today. Could be they forget that the Barak type of have so much multiplied (Num. 22.17). Instead of focusing on God’s will, they follow fellow men. Warning: Earthly lust if not repented of, may lead to unbreakable sinful lifestyles.
