Sunday 1st June Psalm 96.1-13

June 1

Qn. 4

Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the eareth! (!): Some people suggest that the writer of this psalm could be David since it is more or less similar to the one the Israelites sang as they were returning the ark of covenant to the temple (1 Chr. 16.23-33). Some other people declare that it could have been written by Isaiah or another person who existed during the revival that broke out during king Hezekiah’s reign, after good had killed the Assyrians (2 Kings 19.35-37). This psalm reminds us that no person under the earth has never been rescued by God in a given situation, thus everyone on earth should singing praises to the LORD. Before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness; and the peoples in his faithfulness (13): The idea of judgment to the people on earth was not addressed just by this psalmist; other writers have also done likewise, and even Jesus himself talked about the terrifying moments when people will be exposed to the reality of eternal judgment (Mat. 25.31-34). Do you ever remember that time will come when everyone will stand before the God’s throne for judgment? Consider: No one shall bring any charge against God’s elect (Rom. 8.33-34). Song 174 (Praises).
