Sunday 16 June 2 Corinthians 10.12-18 Qn.3
For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved; but the one whom the Lord commends… (18): Paul does not identify himself with the Corinthians who were led by sin, and thought about themselves as superior. This means that they could compare themselves with the less powerful with an intention to commend themselves and show that they were above all the others. Paul did not want to belong to them since they had taken totally different ways. Those Corinthians would be compared to the churches of today that do not emphasize on salvation. It is very possible to spend a long time in a given church but without any personal encounter with Christ. Paul had received Christ, so he understood that Christ was his provider of whatever he had and his enabler whenever he was involved in God’s service. For this reason he had no reason to commend himself but looked upon the Lord to commend him. Wish: May the Holy Spirit enlighten our hearts and remind us that every time we have to wait upon Christ to commend us and not to commend ourselves, because he is the provider and the enabler, and he deserves all the glory. Song 168 (Praises)
