Sunday 13th July Acts 17.16-34

July 13

Qn. 1, 3

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols (16): The city of Athens bothered Paul so much because he found the people there so much engaged in the worship of idols. There were two groups (Epicurean and Stoic) which taught about self-indulgence and personal freedom that could lead to sin. A Godly person is saddened by the wickedness of people, which leads them to death (Jer. 9.1). But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them (34): Even if Paul met a lot of opposition on his missionary journey, he did not give up, instead he kept on sharing the gospel, and all kinds of people accepted Jesus; including people of high standing (Acts 17.12, 34). Some people assume that salvation is only for ordinary people, either those who have not had good education or those who have lost their strength. If you come across anyone who thinks likewise, tell them that in Jesus no rich or poor, no Jew or Greek, instead everyone needs to get saved. Blessed is the one who knew about it and responded accordingly.
