Sunday 11 February John 8.48-59 Qn.1
“… Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan …” (48). Many times people could confuse Jesus to the point of taking him to be demon possessed. At this point the Jews looked at him from racial perspective and began to convince him that he was a Samaritan. In the Jews point of view a Samaritan was an ignoble person, considered to alienated from God. Imagine that kind of person telling them that whoever listens to his word will have eternal life. On this point they immediately confirmed that he had demon because they thought he was not greater than Abraham and other prophets they thought to be great, even as these prophets had died long ago (52-53). Jesus came to the point he told them that he had preceded Abraham (57-58). At this point, they were about to stone him accusing him of insulting their God (59,54-55). Nothing can interrupt God’s plan. Jesus was most times opposed by many people but because the plan from the love of God could not be thwarted, he saved us and we are now God’s children (Gal 3.26). Pray: Father God, give me a clear listening and understanding of your word and enable me to do whatever I am called to do. Song 348 (Praises
