Sunday 10th August Matthew 21.12-22
Qn. 3
He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers” (13): The house of God is meant for only sacred things, which God approves of. Yet, the Israelites had turned God’s house into a den of robbers. Jesus was not only saddened by the fact that people were using it for buying and selling, but that there were also cases of robbery, which was something abominable. The priests and scribes were supporting that because the sacrifices could be bought at high costs, thus boosting the economy of their religion. That was an annual thing as Jews from all over who could come to Jerusalem (Luke 2.31), needed to convert their money to the currency of the place, and also buy some animals for their sacrifices. After Jesus had rebuked them, those who had been denied access to the temple were able to enter to meet Jesus, and he healed them. Jesus never entertains anything that interferes with the spread of the gospel. Prayer Request: Pray for God’s people, to know the will of God, and not be misled by the prevailing world views.
