Saturday 2nd August Judges 21.1-25

August 2

Qn. 3

And the people came to Bethel and sat there till evening before God, and they lifted up their voices and wept bitterly (2): Even if the Israelites won the battle, yet they were sad to lose one tribe among the Israelites. The Benjaminites were from the tribe of Benjamin, the son of Jacob, and a brother to Joseph (Gen. 46.19). It was an important tribe not to disappear from the Israelites, despite the vow the Israelites made after their victory. Do you ever make up your mind when you realize that your decision has bad effects on another person, even when he or she could have offended you? …, “Cursed be he who gives a wife to Benjamin.” (18): As their vow could not be declined, the Israelites were brave enough to help the Benjaminite survivors get some women to marry, so that their family may not be blotted out of the Israelites. They first got them 400 women from Jabesh-gilead. If God gives us strength, let’s use if for the good of those who are not strong enough. Consider: Our God is love and doesn’t forsake a person completely, but he follows her or him up and saves her or him.
