Saturday 26 June Leviticus 13.29-59 Qn.4
“The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes…” (45): Leprosy was a disease that could hurt the body so badly, with many side effects on the patient. It is a disease that humiliated the patient since it enforced wearing badly and denied the person the responsibility of taking care of oneself. He or she was to be left out alone and whenever he came closer to other people, he or she had to shout out that they may get out of the way (45). It’s not surprising that many preachers relate leprosy to sin that afflicts a person, crushes him or her, deprives him of his right in public and put him in kind of prison. “When there is a case of leprous disease in a garment, (47): We are used to diseases that affect human body, but leprosy attacked even the garments. On this too God could give the signs that had to help priests to know well the disease (49). The activity of Hygiene and cleaning does not only apply for the body, but also for the garments too! Question: Do we ever think that being righteous to God does not end with just our hearts? That it must reach our outfits as well?
