These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth (20): The sanctification of God’s people touches all aspects of life to the extent of specifying the kind of animals to be eaten. The hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals they may eat (3), but those which lack one of the conditions, like it’s cloven-footed but does not chew (7) or the chewing but is not cloven–footed (4,5,6); these were unclean. And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten (13): for many nations, certain birds are not usually eaten, like the birds that eat meat, or those that eat the remains of the dead. Israel was prohibited from eating some of the animals walking on the ground; some of the birds, and those living in water for which we have seen the list. Some scholars discovered that most of these animals were not eaten in ancient times, not even by those who owned them and there were also some whose meat could cause harm to those who consumed them.
