Saturday 16th August Matthew 22.34-46
Qn. 2
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (37): This is the commandment which Jesus told them was the greatest of all. It was clear that those who asked him were testing him (34). Yet Jesus always had appropriate answers. The commandment to love your neighbor as yourself is equally important to the one of loving God; because when you love your neighbor, you love God as well (Jn. 4.20). The Pharisees knew the commandments by memory, but had never kept them in their hearts. Love requires the heart. Jesus came to seek for our hearts, and not to ask us to observe the laws as the Pharisees could do (Ez. 36.26-27; 2 Cor. 3.3). Jesus is the Prince of peace, love, mercy and grace. Prayer: Father God, give the strength to love all people without any favoritism, and instead may your Word guide me and enable me to pray even for my enemies.
