Saturday 14th June Acts 13.13-25
Qn. 1, 3
“Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.” (15b): After reading the Scriptures to the people who were in the synagogue, Paul at the invitation of the rulers of the synagogue; reminded those present how God brought his people out of Egypt. Even though the Israelites were not submissive enough on their journey, God bore with them and led them to the Promised Land (17-19). The LORD is merciful and his plan for his people is always good (Jer. 29.11). And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am unworthy to untie.’ (25): Paul reminded how John was Jesus Christ’s forerunner, who was teaching about repentance and baptism (24), but he made it clear to his audience that he was not the Christ. He pointed out that Christ was far greater than him as Jesus was to baptize with the Holy Spirit unlike John’s baptism with water (Mat. 3.11). Christ is the only one who is able to change anyone who makes a step to repentance. Consider: Every gospel message should be based on Christ as the way, the truth, and the life (Jn. 14.6). Song 184 (Praises).
