Monday 26 February Isaiah 41.1-16 Qn.5
I, the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he. (4): These islands are compared to the distant nations, those living there are being called to come to plead with the Almighty. He raised this giant from the east (2), giving him the power that himself had never witnessed (3). God declares that it was him who did it. He is the beginning and the end (Revelation 22.13). Those who do not yet know his power, spend their time trying to find solutions for themselves or else seek for solutions from their self-made gods (5). But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, …(8): Almighty God is calling his people, to keep themselves away from those who do not respect him, but who instead worship idols. These friends of God are given promises to stay fearless (10). If there are people terrifying you, remember that being God’s servant and friend puts you in a position of protection where his people live comfortably (Psalm 9.10). Consider: And you shall rejoice in the Lord; in the Holy One of Israel (16b). Let’s always rejoice in the Lord, and God will eventually be proud of us (Phil.4.4)
