Monday 21st July Judges 14.1-20
Qn. 3
Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines (1): Samson the son of Manoah (Judges 13.2-3, 24), became the 11th judge of Israel. Even though he was a Nazirite, and the Holy Spirit was upon him, he fell in love with one of the daughters of Philistines. According to Jewish customs, it was not permissible to marry a gentile (Gen. 24.3). Probably Samson got attracted by the beauty of Philistine ladies and ignored to obey his parents. A Nazirite followed his lustful thoughts and did something abominable in the sight of God. Some Christians easily fall into such temptations, and they end up in spiritual decline. We should avoid anything that may separate us from Christ. …And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring (5): The valley of Sorek in other words Timnah, and the surroundings, were well known for very nice vineyards. This is where Samson tore a lion into pieces. Those who believe in Jesus also have authority (Mat. 10.1). Advice: We must avoid being overtaken by flesh desires to the point of sinning and annoying God.
