Friday 16th May Judges 1.16-36
Qn. 5
And Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said. And he drove out from it the three sons of Anak (20): Caleb was one of the few people who travelled with Joshua and Moses during their time (Num. 14.5-9). The unity between the tribes of Judah and Simeon who were closely related enabled them to defeat the Canaanites (3). Caleb was eventually given Hebron as the LORD had promised it to him and his descendants (20, Num. 14.23-24). You should always keep your mind on God’s promises, wait upon them, because when time comes for them to be fulfilled; God send away from you strong opponents that were against you. When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not drive them out completely (28): the Israelites did not learn from their brothers the Jews and Simeonites, in order to follow what they did: 1) Asking God for advice as to what they had to do; 2) Joining hands with their brothers to fight together in unity; 3) Getting together to remind one another about the conquest of the Promised land of Canaan (Deut. 7.1-6). Reflection: Have you ever allowed anything into your life; not aware of the consequences, and now you realize it has gone beyond your control? Song 176 (Praises).
