Saturday 17th May Judges 2.1-23

May 17

Qn. 5

I will never break my covenant with you, (1b): God is faithful and trustworthy, he keeps in mind his promises and never breaches any of them. However, his people the Israelites could always breach them (1-2; Ex. 19.5-8). The tears and the offerings offered at Bochim was simply a short time change, it was not radical because shortly after they backslid. Take some moments to check whether it’s the same case with you and ask for forgiveness, and review God’s promises with you. And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals (11): God had entrusted his people with his laws, which they were required to observe and even teach to their children (Deut. 6.6-7). However, the parents did not play their role well and their descendants ended up not knowing God and what he had done in their lives. The consequences of Israel’s disobedience to God were so many: God’s anger could burn to them; their enemies could defeat them, oppress them, and even leading to the point of being enslaved by the gods of those enemies. Question: Do we ourselves teach our children, so that they may know God and the great things he has done? Song 5 (Salvation).
