Friday 27th June Hosea 1.10-2.13

June 27

Qn. 2

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea,…..(1.10): Even though the LORD says that they are no longer his people, yet he is not the one who had forsaken them, they are the ones who had done so. As for him, he still had good plans for them to multiply them as much as the sand of the sea, and where they have been called that they were not his people, they will call them God’s people. He spoke through Ezekiel that he doesn’t have pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked may turn from his way and live (Ez. 33.11). “Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband—…..(2.2): The LORD’s promises of good things to them doesn’t mean that he was not aware of their idolatry which he compared with a second husband. This woman who is pleaded to put away her whoring from her face is God’s people who are requested to stop defiling themselves with the idols, and who could be punished in case they didn’t repent (2.3-6). Christians also ought to make self-examination to figure out whether they might be involved in idolatry or not. Consider: God’s love supersedes anything else for us (2.8). Song 149 (Praises).
