About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way (23): The root cause of this disturbance was the idol called Artemis, considered as provider of productivity.  Demetrius had created a business making silver shrines of Artemis, and this could bring him a lot of money. Even as the disturbance broke out during Paul’s preaching, the silversmith is not bothered by gospel but instead by the possible collapse of his business. Even today, there are people who have the spirit of Demetrius, who use God’s word for personal gain, thus we believers must watch out. Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together (32): It’s surprising how one person’s benefit creates chaos in the entire city! Demetrius was a business man hidden behind the idol Artemis, while the others don’t know what the meeting is all about. Some people follow sheepishly without knowing where they might end up to, and they suffer the consequences. It’s necessary that we look at anything critically. Warning: Those who disguise themselves to oppose the gospel proclamation shall not   inherit anything in heaven, but those who truly believe in Jesus shall overcome.
